micro etudes

Micro Études by Elisabeth Parry is an innovative and comprehensive method for flute warm ups. This collection of short, melodic studies is designed to develop the essential elements of flute technique through focused daily practice.

Covering sonority, finger technique, the top register, articulation, embouchure flexibility and intonation, each étude sequence is taken through keys up to four sharps and flats. Keys in four to seven sharps and flats are developed in volume 2 (for publication in 2027).

Each set of warm ups can be played with piano accompaniment recorded by John Alley, of the London Symphony Orchestra.

The book draws on current research into effective practice and is designed to make technical work both purposeful and genuinely musical.

Micro Etudes won the Pedagogy prize in the NFA Newly Published Music Awards 2023 and has become a world-wide bestseller. It is a recommended technique book in the official NFA Selected Guide to Flute Repertoire and Studies.
